RELATED TOPICS/EXPERIENCES:  As the Vice President of the Environmental Affairs Department, Mr. Bergman manages the environmental affairs programs for the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the 2nd largest and 3rd busiest airport in the world.  He manages a professional and technical staff that performs environmental response activities airport-wide, and he developed and administered the Department’s capital, operation and management budget.   He has developed and implemented DFW Airport’s Environmental Management System as a structured platform from which to assure environmental compliance, with environmental excellence as the airport’s goal.  The EMS is designed to provide an integrated structure for application of DFW Environmental Affairs Department’s core environmental programs. 

In addition, he serves as the DFW Airport Board’s Environmental Officer, and serves as the Board’s single point of contact with enforcement and regulatory agencies.

Recent Projects, Publications and Accomplishments include:

  • Development, promulgation and implementation of DFW’s Environmental Management System;
  • Completion of $80,000,000 in infra-structure capital improvement projects to bring DFW Airport into compliance with water quality discharge statutes and regulations;
  • Conducted a water sampling program to demonstrate compliance with federal and state water quality standards applicable to DFW Airport’s 62 outfalls discharging to receiving waters of the U.S.;
  • Mapped DFW Airport watershed areas to facilitate institution of design, construction and implementation of structural and operational Best Management Practice applicable to meeting the requirements of controlling environmental law;
  • Participated in the reduction of air emissions from stationary and mobile sources by approximately 90% in response to Texas State Implementation PlanProvided on-going environmental support to DFW’s in-progress 2.6 Billion dollar capital development program;
  • Restored DFW Airport’s environmental credibility and integrity with Federal and State enforcement and regulatory agencies;
  • Developed and Airport intra-net site to make DFW Airport’s EMS immediately accessible in support of DFW Airport’s 1800 Board employees on an interactive basis;
  • Personally developed an Environmental Stewardship Training Program and helped to provide this training to all 1800 DFW employees;
